My name is Donavan Andrew Brown ( keyword: trxdude )
I am a compassionate fitness educator, avid Yogi, two-time NCAA football champion, Indo Board ambassador, NAGA grappling competitor, Certified Balanced Body Pilates practitioner, USGSF Russian Kettlebell Coach, Body of Life Success Coach, TRX Specialist, Certified Fitness Trainer, Pilates Method Alliance member, and International Kiteboarding Organization student.
My emphasis on board sport specific; corrective, preventative and progressive, performance training is fueled by my passion for skateboarding, snowboarding, wakesurfing, surfing, kiteboarding, wakeskating, stand-up paddle boarding and namely those sun soaked activities that require a keen sense of balance, proprioceptive awareness, extreme range of motion, and an abundant amount of energy. While that basis is nearly a small distraction from the real goal of my work, theoretically a FUNctional foundational approach to movement only makes sense.
I’ve discovered that the Pilates method will allow you to coordinate the myriad of movement patterns needed to effectively create balanced strength and mobility throughout your body. By applying and mastering the fundamental mat and apparatus work, you will feel, see, and experience life in a whole new way, which I believe was in fact Joe Pilates primary objective. For me, the Pilates method has ignited a passion for discovering my full potential as an artist, mover, searcher, scientist, yogi, and most importantly, as a human of infinite grace. Hopefully I can share this passion with you.
After graduating from the pre-med/health program at the University of Northern Colorado, and leaving behind a successful athletic career, I ventured to Southern California to pursue my passion for physique augmentation at the world famous Gold’s Gym Venice Beach, CA. Instantly falling in love with board sports and the “SoCal lifestyle”, I pulled myself out of the gym, and on to every type of board I could find. Surf, snow, skate, wake, you name it. Not long afterward I also jumped into the MMA scene where I meet and began training with UFC veteran Brandon Vera, whom first introduced me to the TRX Suspension Trainer.
Strength training and cardio-respiratory conditioning the "old fashion" way would always be a part of who I am; however, as I began to extend and expand my awareness through Yoga and it's derivatives, I truly experienced life changing illumination. -Donavan Brown

While preparing my body for the rigors of martial arts, and the complexity of my new found appreciation for Eddie Bravo's Rubber Guard Jiu-Jitsu system, the TRX became an invaluable component to my fitness education and movement awareness training. The TRX became the fountainhead and a metaphor that not only embraced my foundation in Iyengar alignment based Kurunta Yoga, but also sparked my interest in many unique forms of suspension training, including one of my now favorites, which would allow a kite to power my board of choice.
I soon began exploring multiple training modalities that encompassed the mind body awareness phenomenon I saw sweeping the country. Moving part of my functional fitness studio as close to the San Diego bay and Pacific Ocean as possible, and embracing the Balanced Bodies Pilates University studies, were just a few of the major steps I undertook toward mastering my own personal fitness quest and progressing my movement education system.
Quick History: After suffering a broken ankle from skateboarding, knee injuries from Jiu-Jitsu and wakeboarding, while simultaneously battling a plethora of injuries, plus skeletal and muscular imbalances remaining from the football days, not to mention 1000's of hours sitting in front of computers. I put together a unique, integrated movement education system, which I feel will benefit the advanced athlete, weekend warrior, or any person looking to improve their performance, health, and fitness. The system includes an eclectic combination of exercise modalities inspired by Iyengar Yoga, TRX movement education, Mixed Martial Arts, Performing Arts, Pilates Contrology, Indo Board Balance Performance, Team Sports, Russian Kettlebell Sport, Rehabilitation, and Injury Prevention.
Let me be your guide and entertainer, let me provide the incentive, inspiration, and motivation for you to cultivate a lifestyle filled with pain free movement and enhanced physical performance. My sessions last anywhere from 90 to 120 minutes, with an emphasis on teaching you my system so that you may become self-sufficient at mastering your own movement repertoire.
